Firefly Wedding Manga Gets TV Anime Adaptation, Premieres This October

A television anime adaptation of Oreko Tachibana’s Firefly Wedding (Hotaru no Yomeiri) manga has been officially announced. A newly launched website confirmed on Monday that the series will premiere this October on Fuji TV.

The anime will be directed by Takahiro Kamei (Urusei Yatsura 2022–2024) at david production, with Yukiko Aikei (Your Lie in April, Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop) handling the character designs. Alongside the announcement, a new key visual showcasing the series’ dark romantic tone was also revealed.

Firefly Wedding tells the story of Satoko, a noblewoman who appears to have everything—beauty, status, and eligibility for marriage—but is secretly suffering from a terminal illness. As her remaining time runs short, Satoko becomes the target of a mysterious assassin named Shinpei. In a desperate attempt to survive, she proposes marriage to him, setting the stage for a dangerous and unconventional romance where love and death are deeply intertwined.

The original manga launched on Shogakukan’s Manga ONE app in January 2023 and has quickly gained attention for its intense atmosphere and dramatic storytelling. Shogakukan released the 12th compiled volume in December, while Viz Media publishes the series in English.

With david production at the helm and a strong creative staff attached, Firefly Wedding is shaping up to be one of the standout romance-drama anime titles of the upcoming fall season.
