Kodansha has confirmed that Tonchi Kataoka’s manga Shūen no Majo to Sekai no Tabi (The Witch of the End and the World Journey) is approaching its finale. According to the February issue of Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine, the series will officially end with the March issue, set to release on February 9.

The story centers on Elena Morgana, feared as the world’s most evil witch, who finally reaches humanity after a long and devastating war between the Demon King’s army and humankind. Just as she prepares to deliver the final blow, her magic unexpectedly fails. Swearing revenge, Elena plans to return and finish what she started—until a chance encounter with a gentle villager named Taro alters her path. What follows is an unlikely journey in which a witch once bent on destruction sets out to save the very world she intended to erase.
Kataoka launched the manga in Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in August 2024, with Kodansha publishing the third collected volume on September 9. While the series kept a relatively short run, its mix of dark fantasy and emotional character turns left a strong impression.
Outside of this work, Tonchi Kataoka is also known internationally for How to Train Your Devil, a four-volume manga series released in English by Seven Seas. That series originally ran on Mag Garden’s Mag Comi website from 2017 to 2020.
With its ending now in sight, The Witch of the End and the World Journey prepares to close out Elena Morgana’s story—one shaped as much by quiet human connection as by apocalyptic magic.
