When he is later invited to help rebuild the struggling and ridiculed fire-fighting unit of the Shinjo clan, Gengo chooses to return to the flames—this time alongside an eccentric team determined to save lives as strange “foxfire” incidents spread across Edo.
Imamura originally launched the Ushūboro Tobigumi novel series in 2017, with 12 volumes and a spinoff short story collection currently published. The series won the 6th Yoshikawa Eiji Bunko Award in 2021. A manga adaptation by Shinobu Seguchi began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Champion earlier this year, with an English digital release following in North America
