Kyoto Animation has announced that TRUE will perform the theme song “ToCoda” for Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie Part 1, the first installment in the franchise’s long-awaited Final Movie project. The film is scheduled to open in Japanese theaters on April 24, with screenings planned in approximately 200 cinemas nationwide.
TRUE’s return continues a decade-long partnership with the series, having previously handled theme songs for all three television seasons, Sound! Euphonium The Movie – Our Promise: A Brand New Day, and Ensemble Contest Arc. Her involvement positions “ToCoda” as a symbolic closing note for one of Kyoto Animation’s most enduring works.
Following the emotional conclusion of Sound! Euphonium 3 in 2024, The Final Movie Part 1 is positioned as the true beginning of the series’ finale. Kyoto Animation describes the film as the culmination of ten years spent portraying the youth and dedication of high school concert band members, expanding the story with newly written material and performance scenes that were never shown in the TV anime.
The film is directed by Taichi Ogawa, with Tatsuya Ishihara serving as chief director after guiding the franchise since its early days. Jukki Hanada returns to write the screenplay, while Shoko Ikeda and Kazumi Ikeda handle character designs, with Kazumi Ikeda also acting as chief animation director. Music is composed by Akito Matsuda, produced through Lantis and Heart Company with musical cooperation from Senzoku Gakuen College of Music.
