This April, Monster Eater Brings a Dark Fantasy With a Very Unusual Appetite

What happens when the weakest adventurer decides survival comes first—no matter the cost?
This April, Monster Eater (Mamonogurai no Bōkensha) is coming to television with a brand-new light anime adaptation, and it’s already turning heads.

Animation ID confirmed that the webtoon adaptation of Renkinō’s fantasy series will premiere on Tokyo MX, bringing its gritty, hunger-driven story to the small screen. Alongside the announcement, fans were treated to a teaser video and a striking key visual, hinting at a world where desperation can unlock terrifying power.

The anime is directed by Hikaru Satō at IMAGICA Infos and Imageworks Studio, with Kazuya Takahashi overseeing the production. nanogram.inc joins the project as a production collaborator, helping shape this darker take on the classic fantasy adventure.

At the heart of the story is Rudd, an adventurer nobody wants on their team. Mocked, discarded, and ultimately betrayed in a deadly dungeon, Rudd is pushed to the edge of survival. With no allies left and death closing in, he breaks a forbidden rule—he eats the monsters that nearly killed him. What follows is a twisted rise in power, where every bite brings him closer to becoming something far beyond an ordinary adventurer.

Originally written by Renkinō on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō platform, Monster Eater has grown into a multi-format series, spawning light novels, manga, and a webtoon adaptation. Now, with its anime debut just around the corner, Rudd’s brutal journey is ready to reach an even wider audience.

If you’re into dark fantasy stories where growth comes at a disturbing price, Monster Eater might just be the series to keep on your radar this spring.
