The official website for the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin (Tensui no Sakuna Hime) television anime revealed that the series will return with a two-part television special spinoff titled Tensui no Sakuna Hime: Kokorowa Inasaku Nisshi (Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin – Kokorowa’s Rice Farming Journal).

The special will air on TV Tokyo and five other channels on February 15 and February 22. Voice actress Rika Kinugawa also confirmed that this project is the sequel anime that was first teased back in November 2024.,

Based on Keiji Andō’s spinoff novel, the story shifts the spotlight to Kokorowa, the genius inventor goddess, prolific writer, and Sakuna’s closest friend. After a certain incident, Kokorowa ends up accompanying Sakuna to Hinoe Island, where she unexpectedly finds herself learning the art of rice farming alongside her.

Director Masayuki Yoshihara returns from the main TV series to helm the special at P.A. Works. Naomi Ōzora reprises her role as Sakuna, while Rika Kinugawa returns as Kokorowa.

The original spinoff novel was published in October 2021, and Kokorowa is also set to take center stage in the upcoming spinoff game Sakuna Chronicles: Kokorowa and the Gears of Creation.

The original Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime aired in July 2024, with Crunchyroll streaming the series as it broadcast in Japan. The franchise began with Edelweiss’ action RPG released in November 2020 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, blending fast-paced combat with surprisingly deep rice cultivation mechanics.
