New Ghost in the Shell Anime Drops First Trailer Ahead of July 2026 Premiere

The staff behind The Ghost in the Shell, Science SARU’s upcoming television anime based on the iconic cyberpunk franchise, revealed the first promotional video, key visual, main composers, and confirmed a July 2026 premiere.

The new visual — illustrated by character designer and chief animation director Shūhei Handa — highlights protagonist Motoko Kusanagi and pays tribute to the original artwork of manga creator Masamune Shirow.

Music production is led by Taisei Iwasaki, who composes the score alongside Ryō Konishi and Yuki Kanesaka. The anime will air in July on Kansai TV and Fuji TV’s Tuesday night anime block “Ka-Anival!!”.

Storyboard artist Mokochan makes his directorial debut at Science SARU, while novelist and screenwriter Toh Enjoe oversees the series scripts. Production committee members include Bandai Namco Filmworks, Kodansha, Science SARU, and Production I.G.

Shirow commented that this installment represents a new generation for the franchise, following adaptations directed by Mamoru Oshii, Kenji Kamiyama, and Kazuchika Kise. Producers previously stated that the series will stay faithful to the original manga’s tone and themes.

The announcement also comes after the passing of longtime Motoko voice actress Atsuko Tanaka in August 2024. The most recent project in the franchise was Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 The Last Human, a compilation film for the second season of the SAC_2045 anime.
