Girls’ Frontline Anime Airs Daily in via Sony YAY

Sony YAY announced on Instagram that the television anime adaptation of Sunborn Network’s popular smartphone game Girls’ Frontline is now airing daily in India. The series is broadcast every night at 10:30 p.m. IST.

Originally, the anime premiered in January 2022 in Japan, airing on Tokyo MX and ABEMA after earlier plans for a 2021 global release were delayed. With this move, Indian audiences now have regular access to the anime’s full television run.

A Dark Sci-Fi World Set in the Near Future

Set in an alternate version of Earth during the 2060s, Girls’ Frontline depicts a world devastated by disease outbreaks and the aftermath of reckless nuclear warfare. Much of the planet has become uninhabitable, populations have collapsed, and former global powers have faded.

In this harsh landscape, private military companies rely on android soldiers known as Tactical Dolls (T-Dolls). Players—and the anime’s central perspective—follow a newly appointed commander tasked with leading these T-Dolls against a dangerous emerging AI threat on the battlefield.

The anime is directed by Shigeru Ueda (Gekidol, Peach Boy Riverside), with Hideyuki Kurata (Made in Abyss) handling series composition and scripts. Masaki Yamada (Deadman Wonderland, Tiger & Bunny) designed the characters, while Takashi Watanabe composed the music.
Animation was produced by Asahi Production, with Warner Bros. Japan overseeing the project. The original story credits go to Sunborn Network Technology and Mica Team.

From Mobile Game to Global Franchise

Originally developed by Mica Team, a Chinese dōjin game circle that later founded Sunborn Network, Girls’ Frontline launched in China in 2016, followed by English and Japanese releases in 2018. The franchise continues to expand with its sequel, Girls’ Frontline 2: Exilium, which released globally in late 2024 and arrived on Steam in February 2025.
