On an American dollar bill, you can see the words Novus Ordo Seclorum. That literally means “New World Order.” And as recent events show, the U.S. is actively shaping a new world order. Let me explain.
In 2020, a Twitter user asked whether the U.S. coup in Bolivia was carried out for people’s welfare or for lithium resources. Elon Musk replied, “We can stage any coup we want. Deal with it.” Later, due to backlash, he deleted the tweet. The controversy arose because Musk’s companies have serious lithium battery demands. Although he later said, “We get our lithium from Australia, not Bolivia,” the coup quickly became known as the “lithium coup.” Interestingly, Tesla stocks, which Musk owns, surged immediately afterward, and Bolivia—rich in lithium—became effectively America’s backyard.
Going further back to 1823, U.S. President James Monroe introduced a doctrine—later known as the Monroe Doctrine. According to it, the U.S. did not want European colonizers in the Western Hemisphere (the Americas). While not officially, the entire North and South American continents were considered the United States’ backyard. In short, the Monroe Doctrine ignored the European colonial order. The world was no longer the old world. A new world order existed. That’s Novus Ordo Seclorum.
Our modern-day example is Donald Trump, who seems determined to maintain this American-centric new world order. That’s why the U.S. opposes countries like Russia, China, and Iran operating in Venezuela. Just a day before Maduro was removed from power, he met with Chinese officials. Trump expanded the doctrine: “We don’t want European colonizers—we want total control.” He said: “If Russia and China are buying oil from Venezuela, you’re basically wandering a village without dogs or sticks. That’s not how it works. We’re returning to Monroe. You can go crazy.”
“Is that it?” someone asked.
“No,” he replied. “We also want Greenland.” Greenland was considered part of the Western Hemisphere under the Monroe Doctrine. Trump even jokingly renamed the doctrine Donreo—“Don” in Latin means father, master, or boss. In other words: if the world is a village, we are the bosses. No country can challenge it outside of international power rules. The real rule of the international arena is jungle law, and law is just the stick of the strong.
In plain terms: this is the new world order, my friends. Deal with it.
