Firefly Wedding Manga Ends, Spin-Offs Announced

Oreco Tachibana’s popular manga Firefly Wedding (Hotaru no Yomeiri) has officially reached its finale. Shogakukan’s Manga ONE platform released the final chapter in early access this week, with the official release scheduled for February 2. But while the main story is coming to a close, fans won’t be saying goodbye just yet.

Alongside the finale, Manga ONE confirmed that multiple spin-off stories are on the way. The first spin-off, titled “Koi to Doku” (Love and Poison), will debut on February 2, with its second part following on March 2.

A second, larger spin-off project has also been revealed. “Hotaru no Yomeiri Gaiden -Hitokiri to Yōdō-” (Firefly Wedding Spinoff – The Assassin and a Young Child) will run for five chapters, releasing monthly on the following dates:

  • Chapter 1: April 6
  • Chapter 2: May 4
  • Chapter 3: June 8
  • Chapter 4: July 6
  • Chapter 5: August 3

The original manga entered its final arc in October, bringing its dramatic Meiji-era love story toward a powerful conclusion. The series follows Satoko, a noblewoman with a weak heart who seeks a strategic marriage before her time runs out—only to be targeted by the deadly assassin Shinpei. In a desperate move, she proposes marriage to him, sparking a dangerous and emotionally charged relationship.

Firefly Wedding began serialization on Manga ONE in 2022 and has steadily gained attention for its intense romance and historical setting. Shogakukan will release the 11th collected volume on February 19, while the series’ fifth English print volume arrives later this month. The manga was also nominated for Best Shōjo Manga at the 48th Kodansha Manga Awards in 2024.

Adding to the excitement, the series is also set to receive a TV anime adaptation premiering this October, ensuring that the world of Firefly Wedding will continue to shine well beyond the manga’s finale.
