comcept Game Studio Officially Dissolved
The Japanese government’s Kanpo gazette has confirmed that game developer comcept has officially been dissolved following a shareholder decision made on January 13.
The studio had already gone through major restructuring in recent years. Parent company Level-5 previously shut down its successor LEVEL5 comcept in May 2025 after founder Keiji Inafune left the company in mid-2024. For a short period, operations were handled by Level-5’s Osaka office before the final closure.

Founded in 2010 by Inafune — best known as the creator of Mega Man — the studio worked on titles such as Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, Soul Sacrifice, and Mighty No. 9, which was positioned as a spiritual successor to Mega Man. The team also planned Red Ash: The Indelible Legend, a project inspired by the Mega Man Legends line that ultimately never launched.
Level-5 acquired comcept in 2017, closing its Tokyo office and continuing development from Osaka under the LEVEL5 comcept name. In later years, the studio mainly supported internal projects and led development on Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time, which remained in production during Inafune’s departure.
With the legal dissolution now finalized, comcept’s chapter in the industry officially comes to an end, marking the closure of a studio that played a notable role in crowdfunded and experimental action RPG development during the 2010s.
