New High School! Kimengumi Anime Casts Yasunori Matsumoto, Sayumi Suzushiro
The High School! Kimengumi anime revealed two new cast members for its fifth episode. Yasunori Matsumoto will voice the eccentric biology teacher Gorō Mutsu, while Sayumi Suzushiro will bring life to Pochi, a mysterious horseshoe crab-like creature. Anime Broadcast and Background
The High School! Kimengumi anime premiered on January 9 on Fuji TV’s Noitamina block, airing Fridays at 11:30 p.m. The gag comedy centers on five unusual students, known as Kimengumi, who befriend the school’s cutest girl and her friend. The series updates the original 1980s story with a modern cast.

The original anime’s iconic song “Ushiroyubi Sasaregumi” is reimagined with a modern rearrangement by Night Tempo, performed by Haruka Shiraishi and Ikumi Hasegawa.
Manga Origins
The story started in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine as 3-Nen Kimengumi in September 1980. After the characters entered high school, it was retitled High School! Kimengumi, running from 1982 to 1987. The first anime adaptation aired 86 episodes from 1985 to 1987 and inspired the 1986 film Teenage Masked Tribe.
